Paul George has introduced himself as a Boston Celtic following the blockbuster trade that sent Jaylen Brown to the Philadelphia 76ers. George understood the fans’ reaction: “I understand how huge JB was not only for the organization but here in the city. I didn’t take it personally.”
The eight-time All-Star does not view himself as Brown’s replacement and plans to complement Jayson Tatum. “I’m not here to steal the shine or reinvent who I am,” George said. “I’m here to help JT, and he’s the guy.” Boston’s spacing and high-IQ approach should also suit his game.
After appearing in only 41 and 37 games over the past two seasons, George spent the summer training instead of rehabilitating: “I feel amazing. It’s almost like a rebirth.” At 36, winning his first NBA championship remains his primary motivation.
