The Spanish basketball icon Pau Gasol spoke about the NBA Europe project and the increasingly busy schedule.

Pau Gasol spoke at the presentation of the 21st edition of the Pau Gasol Academy in Barcelona as part of the NBA Europe project. Below are his words, as reported by Marca.

Pau Gasol said: “Work is underway; it’s an ongoing project. I see it as an initiative to improve the European basketball model, and it’s an opportunity for our sport to grow. We’ll see how it develops and progresses. The basketball model in Europe needs to evolve and improve. It’s not economically sustainable, and most teams are losing money.”

Regarding the increasingly busy schedule: “The schedule is becoming increasingly busy and needs to be managed. Preparation must be adequate because the physical demands are no longer what they used to be. You can’t keep adding games because you’ll eventually reach a saturation point. It’s not good for the players, the fans, or the sport in general. FIBA and the national leagues are working on it.”
