“HARMING THE IMAGE OF THE COMPETITION AND ITS PARTICIPANTS”
The LNB’s Legal, Disciplinary and Regulations Commission has sanctioned Paris Basketball over a social media post published during the quarterfinal playoff series against SIG Strasbourg.
After losing Game 2 in Strasbourg 87-82 on May 28, Paris Basketball publicly accused William Pfister of being responsible for an injury suffered by Sebastian Herrera, which was ultimately not serious.
Paris published a video montage focused on Pfister, accompanied by a strongly worded message:
“Four times in 10 minutes, Strasbourg player William Pfister does not play the ball, but the man, to hurt him.”
The club then added:
“Until he injured Sebastian Herrera, who will miss tomorrow’s game. @betclic_elite, how many players will we have to lose before action is taken?”
The post was later deleted after Strasbourg president Jérôme Rosenstiehl contacted the LNB. However, it remained visible for around 15 hours on Paris Basketball’s Facebook account, which has nearly 70,000 followers, generating significant negative reactions.
€1,500 FINE + €1,500 SUSPENDED FINE
The LNB commission considered the post to constitute “harm to the image of its competition and its participants”, referring the club to the disciplinary process.
The CJDR, which met on July 22, ultimately handed Paris Basketball:
- €1,500 fine
- €1,500 suspended fine
The case is similar to that of Élan Chalon, who were also sanctioned by the LNB several months earlier over controversial social media communication.
