The Paris 2024 Olympic Games are making history, at least as far as basketball is concerned: a record attendance has been set, surpassing the previous record set by the 1996 Games in Atlanta. According to BasketEurope, a total of 1,068,032 spectators attended the men’s and women’s games.
The average attendance was 20,737 spectators per game, thanks largely to the contribution of the Pierre Mauroy Stadium, which was converted from a football stadium to a basketball arena and filled to 91.8 percent of its capacity. A remarkable record considering that only 52 games were played, a full 40 fewer than the 1996 edition in Atlanta.
