Panathinaikos owner Giannakopoulos hit with six-month ban and €50.000 fine

The Panathinaikos owner has been sanctioned by the Greek Sports Judge following incidents during Game 3 of the finals against Olympiacos. The club was also fined.

Greek League Sports Judge has handed down a significant punishment to Panathinaikos AKTOR Athens owner Dimitris Giannakopoulos, imposing a six-month ban from all domestic sports venues along with a €50,000 fine.

The ruling stems from incidents that occurred during Game 3 of the 2025-26 Greek League Finals against Olympiacos on June 8. According to the decision, Giannakopoulos committed repeated actions deemed detrimental to the image of the sport.

In addition to the sanctions imposed on the club owner, Panathinaikos has also been fined €50,000 for his conduct. As a result, the total financial penalties issued in connection with the case amount to €100,000.

The decision adds further tension to a heated championship series between Greece’s two biggest basketball rivals.
