Moses Wright, Olimpia Milano’s new center, spoke to Gazzetta dello Sport in an interview by Antonino Morici on the eve of the team’s official debut against Virtus Bologna.
On his move to Milan, after initially appearing destined for Barcelona.
“I chose thinking that I deserved a better opportunity. Here there are players I can learn from, people who have won the EuroLeague like Peters, Hall and Guduric. We can build something special.”
He has taken Nebo’s spot on the roster, with Nebo staying in Barcelona.
“Josh is a great player, very athletic, lethal when cutting to the basket. He has a great presence around the rim and in that sense we are similar. I’m here to play hard, with energy.”
Then comes the debut against Virtus Bologna, and starting well matters.
“Olimpia is a great club. When you step on the court, you know you have the responsibility of carrying a brand like Giorgio Armarti. Pressure is part of the game, I’m prepared for it. What I’ve discovered is a high-level organization. Everyone knows exactly what to do.”
Olimpia have missed the EuroLeague playoffs for four years. Wright, however, has reached them every season with Olympiacos and Zalgiris.
“Absolutely. Nobody came here to go on vacation. We know how difficult it is to win in the EuroLeague, but we also know how much we are worth.”
On his experience playing alongside Peters.
“He does whatever it takes, whether it’s diving for a loose ball, playing tough defense or hitting important threes. Alee is a winner.”
His first impressions of new head coach Peppe Poeta.
“He gets you involved, makes sure everyone feels good on the court. Having been a great player in Italy, he has basketball IQ and knowledge to pass on. We’re all learning from him.”
