Olimpia Milano has its giant: Lukasz Lysek joins the youth academy

The 2009-born Polish center, standing 212 cm tall, leaves WKK Wrocław after five years and joins the Biancorossi youth academy.

Łukasz Łysek is joining the Olimpia Milano youth academy. The Polish center, a product of WKK Wrocław, will wear the Biancorossi colors starting next season, bringing an end to a five-year spell with one of Poland’s most successful youth clubs.

Born on May 18, 2009, Łysek is a 212-centimeter center. According to Strefa Basketu, he leaves Wrocław after already building an impressive youth résumé, with several national achievements in his respective age categories.

During his time with WKK Wrocław, Łysek won a silver medal in the Polish U15 Championship, followed by a bronze and then a gold medal at U17 level. He also claimed a bronze medal in the U19 category and won the Polish Youth Cup.

The Polish club, announcing the player’s departure, thanked him for his contribution over the years and wished him all the best for his new experience in Italy. WKK Wrocław is described by the Polish outlet as a club capable of consistently exporting its young talents to some of the leading academies across Europe.

The past few months have also been significant at international level. Łysek, alongside his WKK Wrocław teammates August Chałupa and Szymon Łata, helped Poland U18 finish second at the FIBA U18 European Championship Division B, a result that secured promotion to Division A for next year.

That is not all. The young center has also been invited to Basketball Without Borders Next Up, a camp organized by the NBA and FIBA in Istanbul from August 26 to 29. It represents another significant recognition for a European prospect of his age.

For Olimpia Milano, this is therefore an intriguing addition to its youth setup. Łysek brings impressive size, an already substantial résumé at youth level and international experience, while in Poland he is regarded as one of the promising young talents of his generation.
