Garrison Mathews’ move to Olimpia Milano has been agreed for some time, but the official announcement will have to wait a few more days. The 30-year-old American still needs to complete his medical examinations, a step that, as the Milan edition of Corriere della Sera points out, is particularly important given that he has been sidelined for around eight months and even considered retiring during that period.
Mathews will be the final piece of the Italian champions’ offseason, following six and a half seasons in the NBA with the Washington Wizards, Houston Rockets, Atlanta Hawks and Indiana Pacers. In Milan, he will bring his shooting ability and the experience he gained during his time overseas.
Once the medical checks are completed, the American will be able to join his new teammates ahead of the training camp scheduled for after August 15. In the meantime, Mathews has reiterated that he still believes he can return to the NBA one day, but the next chapter of his career will begin in Europe with Olimpia Milano.
