Official: Agustín Ubal returns to Barcelona on a deal through 2029

The Uruguayan guard-forward comes back to the Blaugrana after gaining valuable ACB experience with five different clubs.

Barcelona has officially announced the return of Agustín Ubal. The Catalan club and the Uruguayan guard-forward have agreed to a contract that will keep him at Barça until June 30, 2029.

Standing 1.98 meters tall, Ubal will turn 23 on July 19. Holding an Italian passport, he qualifies as a homegrown player. He first joined Barcelona’s academy in the summer of 2019 at the age of 16, made his first-team debut at 18, and now returns after playing 129 Liga Endesa games with five different clubs.

“It is a pleasure to be back. Ever since I left, I have dreamed of this moment. I have worked very hard, and I am excited and happy to begin this new challenge,” Ubal said in his first interview with the club’s media.

A highly versatile perimeter player, Ubal is capable of playing point guard, shooting guard, and small forward. He is known for his energy, defensive intensity, and ability to attack the basket. “I’m a versatile player who can play all three perimeter positions. I play with my heart every time I’m on the court. I’ll bring character and energy because I want Barcelona to keep winning, as it always has,” he added.

After arriving at Barça in 2019, Ubal continued his development with the club’s junior team and Barça Atlètic in the Spanish EBA League. During the 2021 preseason, he trained with the first team under Šarūnas Jasikevičius and made his official ACB debut against Coosur Real Betis before also appearing in a EuroLeague game against ASVEL.

In March of the 2021-22 season, he joined Río Breogán on loan to gain more playing time. He later spent time with Bilbao (2022-23), Palencia (2023-24), Granada (2024-25), and BAXI Manresa during the 2025-26 campaign.

Last season with Manresa, Ubal averaged 9.6 points and 3.4 rebounds per game in the ACB. In the EuroCup, he posted 11.5 points and 3.7 rebounds across 17 appearances. He had previously gained European experience with Bilbao in the Basketball Champions League.

Ubal said his return to Barcelona is the reward for years of hard work and determination, explaining that he never stopped believing he would one day wear the Blaugrana jersey again. He also emphasized the physical and basketball growth he has achieved over the past few seasons.

Internationally, Ubal is a member of Uruguay’s senior national team, making his debut at just 17 years old with a 20-point performance in a victory over Paraguay.
