Hapoel Tel Aviv owner Ofer Yannay gave an interview to the club’s official channels, revealing a sensational transfer story. The Israeli club was reportedly very close to signing Nigel Hayes-Davis, the recent MVP of the EuroLeague Final Four. Below are his statements.
Yannay’s words: “We were certain we would bring in Nigel Hayes-Davis. We were convinced it would happen. He had an option in the NBA and, in fact, told us he would join us only if he failed to secure a contract overseas. We talked about it and that’s what was supposed to happen, but then Phoenix offered him $7.5 million per season and promised 15 minutes per game.”
Hapoel Tel Aviv thus came close to pulling off a major signing this past summer, and next season will compete in the EuroLeague as the reigning EuroCup champion.
