NBA would lose $500M in ticket revenue alone if season canceled

The NBA makes an average of $1.2 million in gate revenue per regular season game and $2 million for each playoff game, per source.

As reported by NBC Sports’ Tom Haberstroh, the NBA would lose nearly $500m in lost ticket revenue. Roughly $300m of ticket revenue would be lost for the regular season, if fans couldn’t purchase tickets or were refunded for tickets already purchased; over the past decade, on average, there have been 83 playoff games in each postseason, which would lead to another loss of about $166 million.

According to sources around the NBA, crowds had been dwindling due to the coronavirus with some teams seeing 60 percent of the normal capacity on Wednesday.
