The NBA has urged the Commodity Futures Trading Commission to impose tighter controls on prediction markets, warning that they raise integrity concerns similar to those linked to sports betting.
In a letter signed by Dan Spillane, the league’s executive vice president and assistant general counsel, the NBA stressed that protecting game integrity and public confidence remains its top priority.
The league called for “robust and comprehensive regulations,” especially around markets tied to officiating, injuries and fan actions, along with a strict ban on contract trading by anyone under 21 and stronger cooperation on suspicious activity.
