The NBA and major sportsbooks have agreed to prohibit several types of wagers considered particularly sensitive. The move follows recent betting scandals and expands restrictions already introduced in previous seasons.
According to Shams Charania and David Purdum of ESPN, banned markets will include parlays involving the under on the same player’s statistics, “first of” bets such as the opening tip winner or a player’s first specific shot, rebound, assist or steal, and under bets on players expected to play fewer than 12 minutes per game.
The new restrictions join existing bans on wagers involving 10-day or two-way contract players, turnovers, fouls and missed free throws. The NBA has been in active communication with major gaming companies about tightening betting rules.
