The NBA is prioritizing Las Vegas in its expansion process. “The NBA is focused right now on closing on the owner of the Las Vegas expansion team and then moving toward Seattle,” Shams Charania reported on NBA Today.
Las Vegas currently has the more competitive bidding market, with offers potentially reaching or exceeding $10 billion. According to Charania, unsuccessful groups could later join the Seattle process, where bids are expected to be closer to $7 billion.
Both markets remain under consideration as the NBA evaluates expanding from 30 to 32 teams, but no franchise has been formally approved. The league hopes to gain clarity by the end of 2026, with the new teams potentially beginning play in 2028-29.
