The NBA announced multiple suspensions stemming from Monday’s fight between the Detroit Pistons and Charlotte Hornets: Isaiah Stewart was suspended seven games, Miles Bridges and Moussa Diabate four games each, and Jalen Duren two games. The league said Stewart’s heavier penalty was based in part on his “repeated history of unsportsmanlike acts,” adding he left the bench area, aggressively entered the on-court altercation and fought.
The suspensions began immediately, with Stewart and Duren already missing Detroit’s 113-95 win in Toronto, while Bridges and Diabate sat out as Charlotte beat Atlanta 110-107. The sequence described starts with Diabate’s foul on Duren, a face-to-face confrontation and an escalation involving punches, with Bridges charging in and Stewart later leaving the bench area to confront Bridges during the melee.
Detroit coach J.B. Bickerstaff pushed back on the portrayal of his team: “The narrative… is completely inaccurate.” Hornets coach Charles Lee said he understood the ruling after speaking with James Jones: “It is what it is… we have to take the medicine.” The report also notes a source told ESPN’s Shams Charania that Duren can still participate in the NBA All-Star Game, and includes estimated financial costs tied to the suspensions.
