NBA, FIBA reportedly in talks for a new NBA Europe league

In recent years, the NBA, FIBA and the EuroLeague have been discussing how to grow the game in Europe

In recent years, the NBA, FIBA and the EuroLeague have been discussing how to grow the game in Europe together at a time when the presence and influence of the continent’s stars in the NBA is greater than ever.

Those discussions are ongoing, but now, for the first time, the NBA is considering a number of more ambitious options that could exclude the EuroLeague. One of them could be a new NBA Europe league in its own right. Sportico reveals.

Last month, the NBA hired investment bank Raine Group to evaluate opportunities for the NBA in Europe. The aim is to bridge the gap between the huge interest among basketball fans and the size of the current business in Europe.

Among the new proposals is a league run by the NBA and FIBA, inspired by what the NBA has done in Africa with the Basketball Africa League (BAL), which was launched in 2021 and began its fourth season this weekend.
