The NBA has disclosed a new anti-tanking Draft Lottery proposal to its 30 general managers, called the “3-2-1 lottery”. According to ESPN, the plan could start with the 2027 Draft.
The system would expand the lottery from 14 to 16 teams. Teams missing both the playoffs and play-in but staying outside the bottom three would receive three lottery balls, while the three worst teams would get only two and have a floor at the No. 12 pick.
The proposal would also prevent any team from winning the No. 1 pick in consecutive years or landing three straight top-five picks. NBA owners are expected to hold a final vote on May 28.
