The FBI’s sports betting investigation that led to the arrests of Chauncey Billups and Terry Rozier has now implicated former NBA player Damon Jones, who allegedly leaked confidential injury information about LeBron James, ESPN reports.
James, identified as the “prominent player” in the indictment, is not accused of wrongdoing. Prosecutors allege Jones texted a co-conspirator before the Feb. 9, 2023, Lakers–Bucks game urging them to “bet big on Milwaukee” because James would sit out. The Lakers lost 115-106 without him.
Jones is also accused of sharing nonpublic details before another Lakers game in 2024. The FBI says 34 people were arrested across multiple states in a case also involving Mafia-linked poker operations. The Lakers and James have declined to comment.
