The NBA has officially announced the schedule for the 2026-27 Opening Night, with three high-profile games set to open the new campaign on Tuesday, October 20. All three matchups will be broadcast nationally in the United States on NBC and Peacock.
The spotlight will be on Madison Square Garden, where the New York Knicks will raise their first championship banner in 53 years before beginning their title defense against the new-look Philadelphia 76ers.
Jalen Brunson and the Knicks will face a Philadelphia team featuring two major additions in LeBron James and Jaylen Brown, who will make their Sixers debuts on one of the biggest stages in the NBA.
The other Eastern Conference matchup will see Jayson Tatum, Paul George and the Boston Celtics travel to Detroit to face Cade Cunningham and the Pistons. Detroit finished last season as the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference, setting up an intriguing early-season clash between two of the conference’s top teams.
The third game will feature a rematch of last season’s Western Conference Finals, with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and the Oklahoma City Thunder taking on Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs.
The NBA has therefore chosen three high-profile matchups to open the 2026-27 season, bringing together reigning champions, major offseason additions and some of the league’s brightest stars from the very first night.
