The NBA announced that a record 135 international players from 43 countries will be on opening-night rosters for the 2025-26 season. Among them are 71 Europeans — the most ever — including 19 players from France, 13 from Australia, and 4 from the United Kingdom. It marks the fifth straight season with at least 120 international players and the 12th consecutive year with at least 100.
Canada (23 players) once again leads all countries outside the U.S., followed by France, Australia, Germany, and Serbia. All 30 NBA teams feature at least one international player, with the Atlanta Hawks carrying a record-tying 10 internationals.
The list includes global superstars such as Giannis Antetokounmpo, Nikola Jokic, Luka Doncic, Joel Embiid, and Victor Wembanyama, who have combined to win all seven of the last NBA MVP awards. In total, 16 international All-Stars are part of this season’s rosters, including Gobert, Porziņģis, Markkanen, and Wiggins.
The NBA’s 80th regular season tips off tonight with a doubleheader on NBC/Peacock: Thunder vs. Rockets and Lakers vs. Warriors, with games broadcast in 214 countries and in more than 50 languages.
