Monte Morris arrived in Athens on Sunday morning and delivered his first comments as an Olympiacos player, immediately showing enthusiasm for the new chapter of his career.
The point guard spoke about his positive first impressions, noting that he has already felt the support of the fans and is ready to give everything for the team. A key factor in his decision was his conversation with head coach Giorgos Bartzokas:
“He asked me to play my game, to have the role I had with the Nuggets — to be a floor general. To be aggressive and to make my teammates better. My job will be to give it my all on both ends of the floor and help the team win. The NBA? My focus here, at Olympiacos, is to find the best version of myself. I’m not thinking about the NBA. I’m here now, and I want to execute the plan as well as I can.”
The new Reds guard is ready to take on whatever responsibilities are required:
“I’ll do whatever the coach wants, bringing energy and leadership. Obviously, I’ll need some time to adjust. I have to get to know the guys first, understand how they play and where they like to receive the ball. Now it’s about building team chemistry, and then I’ll keep improving.”
Morris also addressed the fans directly:
“I’m going to play as hard as I can every night. I don’t want to put extra pressure on myself — I know it’s a different game compared to the NBA. But at the end of the day, it’s still basketball: I need to control my game, play with a smile and keep the crowd involved.”
The 30-year-old point guard has long stood out for his court vision and low turnover rate, as shown by more than 1,500 assists in his NBA-career, compared to just over 300 turnovers.
