Monaco sees the light: intervention from the Monegasque State to cover urgent debts

The intervention of the Monegasque State allows the club to cover €2.5 million in urgent debts, avoiding bankruptcy for now. A new court hearing has been scheduled for April 3, 2026.

A critical moment for AS Monaco Basket. The club, which reached the EuroLeague Final last season, is currently facing a serious financial crisis and narrowly avoided bankruptcy thanks to a last-minute intervention from the Principality of Monaco.

According to BeBasket, the State stepped in on March 5, just 24 hours before a scheduled court hearing, paying around €2.5 million to cover urgent debts, including overdue player salaries, social security contributions and wages for temporary staff. To enable the payment, the State acquired a single share in the club’s management company.

However, the move only provides temporary relief: the hearing has been postponed to April 3, 2026, when the court will reassess the club’s financial situation and decide whether to declare bankruptcy.
