The FFBB Appeals Chamber confirmed on Saturday, August 1, that AS Monaco Basket will not be admitted to the Betclic Élite for the 2026-27 season.
The decision was expected given the previously established timetable and the club’s failure to meet the deadlines for submitting a complete takeover and recapitalization proposal. Monaco says there are several reasons behind the situation, but stresses that negotiations aimed at finding a solution have never stopped.
On the contrary, discussions with Jamal Mashburn and his team have intensified considerably since August 1. The club insists that the project is «real and genuine» and describes its sporting and economic ambitions as significant, both domestically and at European level. The financial backing presented to the various parties involved is also considered serious, while all sides are reportedly closer than ever to reaching an overall agreement.
The next step will be an appeal to the CNOSF through a conciliation procedure, with Monaco seeking to defend its takeover and recapitalization project and secure a return to the Betclic Élite. The club has until 11:59 p.m. on August 18 to submit the grounds for its appeal, although all parties involved have set August 14 as their target date.
AS Monaco Basket says it understands the frustration of other clubs waiting to learn which division they will compete in next season, but insists that it also has the right to defend its interests. Monaco points out that it earned its place in the 2026-27 Betclic Élite and EuroCup on the court thanks to its outstanding sporting results during the 2025-26 season.
For that reason, the club believes a request for reinstatement is legitimate if there is a clear willingness to overcome the difficulties encountered, a credible project and the financial resources required to implement it.
AS Monaco Basket has also announced that there will be no further communication on the matter before August 14, which has been identified as the next key date in the process.
