Misko Raznatovic, one of the most influential figures in European basketball, gave an interview to MozzartSport where he addressed key issues regarding the future of the sport in Europe.
According to the Serbian agent, the main shortcoming of the current EuroLeague organization is the lack of strong, determined leadership:
“The EuroLeague needs a leader like Adam Silver, or David Stern before him. Their decisions were unquestionable. Today, however, the future is uncertain. NBA Europe is on the horizon, but it’s unclear what it will mean for our clubs and players. Like everyone else, I have many unknowns.”
Raznatovic also confirmed that the idea of a new global basketball league tied to LeBron James is becoming increasingly concrete:
“This idea has been around for a while, and people are actively working on it. It would be a completely different league—not based on clubs, but on a Formula 1-style model. If it happens, it could shake up both the EuroLeague and the NBA, because some players might prefer that path. But it will take a lot of work to make it a reality.”
The Issue of Player Overload
Raznatovic also warned about the growing problem of player fatigue and overscheduling, an issue recently highlighted by Ettore Messina as well:
“Thirty or forty years ago, Slavnić or Kićanović played 20 or 30 games a season. Now, players can play up to 90. It’s impossible to expect them to constantly suit up for the national team. There’s no optimal solution, and that’s bad for the players. If they want to represent their country, they’re exposed to enormous strain, which also affects the club season. We can already see it in the number of injuries.”
