Mike Caffey signs with Šiauliai on a one-year deal

Šiauliai have officially signed Mike Caffey, with the 33-year-old American point guard agreeing to a one-year contract with the Lithuanian club.

Caffey will strengthen Šiauliai’s backcourt as the team prepares for the upcoming season and its return to international competition under head coach Darius Songaila.

The 1.83-meter point guard spent the last two seasons with Voluntari CSO, competing in the Romanian league and the ENBL.

Head coach Darius Songaila highlighted Caffey’s European experience and his ability to perform in important games.

“Mike has accumulated solid experience in European basketball, and as we step onto the international stage, that will be extremely important for us. A year ago, he deservedly became the ENBL Final Four MVP, which shows his ability to control the game at the most important moments. This is a strong addition that we were really missing,” Songaila said.

Mike Caffey was an ENBL champion

Caffey helped Voluntari CSO reach the ENBL Final Four in two consecutive seasons. During the 2024-25 campaign, the American guard helped the Romanian club win the title and was named Final Four MVP.

In his most recent Romanian league season, Caffey appeared in 36 games, averaging 10.9 points, 2.7 rebounds and 4.2 assists in 23 minutes per game.

He shot 58.6% from two-point range, 31.9% from three-point range and 76.9% from the free-throw line.

Mike Caffey’s European basketball career

Caffey has built an extensive European career before joining Voluntari CSO.

The American point guard has previously played in the top divisions of Poland, Germany, Ukraine, Slovakia, Finland, Greece and Hungary, with Lithuania now becoming the latest stop in his European career.

Šiauliai begin preseason

Šiauliai have already started their preseason schedule. In their first friendly game, Songaila’s team defeated Latvian champions Glass VIA Valmiera 117-99.

Šiauliai will next face Sabah Baku in Birštonas on Saturday before taking part in the Algimantas Mikšys Cup at Šiauliai Arena on September 4-5.
