Mike Batiste is returning to Panathinaikos, where he will join Željko Obradović’s coaching staff on a three-year deal, leaving his role as an assistant coach with the Toronto Raptors.
The announcement was made by club president Dimitris Giannakopoulos through his social media channels. For Panathinaikos, this marks the return of a true club legend. Batiste wore the “Greens” jersey for ten seasons starting in 2003, winning three EuroLeague titles (2007, 2009, 2011), nine Greek league championships, and seven domestic cups, becoming one of the defining figures in the club’s modern history.
After retiring in 2014, the 48-year-old began his coaching career, working with several NBA franchises including the Nets, Hornets, Magic, Wizards, Rockets, and, over the past three years, the Toronto Raptors under Darko Rajaković.
His return to Greece also reunites him with Željko Obradović, his former head coach during their long shared tenure at Panathinaikos, in a project aimed at further strengthening the club’s coaching staff ahead of the upcoming European seasons.
