The Miami Heat are not in position to terminate Terry Rozier’s contract right now, and the key issue is not cap mechanics.
As reported, the NBA has not been granted access to the evidence expected to be used in the federal case involving Rozier.
Without that material, the league reportedly lacks grounds to overturn its prior findings and move to void the deal, as it did with Jontay Porter.
Miami has therefore operated as if the contract remains viable and chose not to waive Rozier ahead of his guarantee date.
That decision guarantees his full $26.64 million salary for 2025-26, foregoing smaller cap and roster benefits mentioned in the report.
Rozier has not played since October following an arrest on federal gambling charges and league leave, yet Miami views his expiring salary as a possible trade tool if an opportunity emerges.
