Miami Heat: Is Simone Fontecchio’s Future in the NBA at Risk?

According to Ira Winderman, a reporter for the South Florida Sun Sentinel, the Miami Heat might consider using the stretch provision on Simone Fontecchio.

Winderman believes that Miami could exercise the stretch provision to get below the luxury tax threshold, and the main candidate could be the Italian forward himself. Fontecchio has a guaranteed contract worth \$8.3 million set to expire on June 30. By applying the stretch provision, that amount would be spread out as \$2.7 million per year over the next three years, reducing its impact on the salary cap.

If Miami decides to use the stretch provision on Fontecchio or another player, they must do so by August 29.
