The second-year wing will undergo surgery to repair a tendon avulsion fracture

Another major setback has hit the injury-ravaged Memphis Grizzlies. Jaylen Wells will undergo surgery to repair a tendon avulsion fracture in his right big toe and, although the franchise did not provide an official recovery timeline, he is expected to miss the rest of the season.

In his sophomore NBA campaign, Wells had built on the strong promise of his rookie year. The 6-foot-7 wing was averaging 12.5 points and 3.2 rebounds per game, while continuing to provide very solid defensive play.

Wells now joins six other Grizzlies already ruled out for the season because of injuries and surgeries. That list includes Santi Aldama, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Brandon Clarke, Zach Edey, Ja Morant and Scotty Pippen Jr., underlining how severely Memphis has been hit this year.
