Maxima Roma, the project led by American entrepreneur Paul Matiasic, is set to compete in next season’s EuroCup thanks to a one-year license.
According to Marco Juric of la Repubblica, the club has reportedly acquired the sporting rights from Brescia Basketball in order to relocate them to the Italian capital. The final formal approval is expected from an extraordinary meeting of the Italian Basketball Federation (FIP) Council, which is set to ratify the operation.
Meanwhile, Ettore Messina has officially become available after announcing his departure from Olimpia Milano following seven years and ten trophies, including four Italian league titles. This paves the way for the pre-agreement reportedly reached with Matiasic to make him the head coach of Maxima Roma.
Alongside Messina, Zoran Savic is expected to take on the role of general manager and oversee the construction of the roster.
The Italian capital is therefore preparing to host two EuroCup clubs: Basket Club Roma SPQR, backed by Luka Dončić and Donnie Nelson, and the newly formed Maxima Roma, led by Matiasic.
