A major situation has emerged at Pallacanestro Trieste involving Markel Brown, who was expected to be one of the team’s cornerstone players for the 2026-27 season.
According to Il Piccolo, the American guard has informed the club of his desire to leave, with more lucrative offers arriving from both overseas and the Italian league.
Among the teams showing interest are several EuroCup clubs, Japanese organizations, and Napoli Basket, where head coach Jasmin Repeša reportedly views Brown as an ideal sixth man capable of changing games off the bench.
The dispute reportedly began months ago when Brown requested a salary increase. General manager Michael Arcieri rejected the request, maintaining that the player’s current deal already ranks among the club’s highest-paid contracts.
Trieste has also refused to negotiate with interested clubs, insisting it has no intention of weakening its roster or rewarding contract pressure.
However, the situation could escalate further, as Brown is reportedly considering not reporting for the team’s preseason camp on August 19, setting up a potential standoff between player and club.
Trieste must now decide whether to stand firm and keep an unhappy player under contract or negotiate an exit, collect compensation, and use the financial flexibility to reshape the roster.
