Mario Chalmers has explained why he felt comfortable challenging LeBron James during Miami’s Big Three era. Speaking with Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson, the former point guard described mutual accountability as one of the Heat’s greatest strengths.
“We really weren’t scared to hold each other accountable,” Chalmers said. James could accept criticism without turning disagreements into personal conflicts because every conversation was intended to help the team improve.
After losing the 2011 NBA Finals, Miami also needed to establish clear roles for James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh. Chalmers credited Bosh with making the biggest sacrifice, moving away from the basket and becoming the “catalyst” of the system that won championships in 2012 and 2013.
