Marcus Smart: Everyone expects us to surrender, but it’s not part of this team’s DNA

Grizzlies are third-to-last in the Western Conference with 14 wins in 37 games

Memphis Grizzlies point guard Marcus Smart talks to the media  after last night’s win on the Dallas Mavs court.

“Okay, we have nothing to lose. Especially without Ja (Morant, out for the remainder of the season with a torn labrum), everyone is giving us away. Everyone expects us to surrender, but it’s not part of this team’s DNA, and especially not in our hearts.”

“We will fight. That’s all we can do. Then again, that’s what we’re used to. We will fight until we can’t do it anymore. And that’s all you can ask: to fight until the end, because we understood that at the beginning of the season the odds were against us and things affected our team. We understood that this might not be a year where we are expected to do who knows what, but it is a year where we have to do well also to give a boost to the next one.”

Smart is scoring 14.4 points with 4.3 assists and 2 steals per game.

Both points and steals are career-highs for the 29-year-old out of Oklahoma State.
