New Virtus Bologna guard Marcus Carr spoke to the media during the club’s Media Day, discussing his first impressions of head coach Alex Mumbru, his role with the team and some of the players who have inspired him throughout his career.
“Mumbru already knew what I could bring”
Carr explained that Mumbru was already familiar with his game after watching him play in Germany last season, when the Spanish coach was also in charge of the German national team.
“Coach Mumbru had the chance to watch a lot of my games because I was playing in Germany last year and he is the German national team coach. It’s definitely an honor to be coached by him.”
The two had already spoken during the summer, giving Mumbru a clear idea of what Carr could bring to Virtus.
“We already had some conversations this summer. He already knew what kind of game I can bring and how I can help the team. I came here to play for a great club, compete at a high level, help the team reach its goals and get to the level that is required.”
“Allen Iverson is one of my idols”
Carr also named several players who have inspired him throughout his career.
“I have several idols. Definitely Allen Iverson, but also Steve Nash, who is a Canadian national team player like me, and LeBron James, who is dominant in the NBA.”
Among EuroLeague players, Carr highlighted another point guard who made a significant impact at the highest level.
“To mention a player who played at a high level in the EuroLeague, Tyrese Rice is definitely another player I look up to.”
