Malik Beasley is not a target of the U.S. Department of Justice investigation into sports gambling involving NBA players. His attorney, Steve Haney, said federal prosecutors in New York confirmed his client’s status last week.
The probe began earlier this year and led the Detroit Pistons to withdraw a three-year, $42 million offer to Beasley. Haney emphasized that Beasley has faced no formal charges, calling the situation “un-American” and unconstitutional.
ESPN reported Beasley’s exclusion from the case, which centers around Jontay Porter and has already led to multiple guilty pleas. The federal investigation, however, remains ongoing.
