Maccabi Tel Aviv Negotiates Player Salary Cuts Amid Financial Strains

Walla Sports reports that Maccabi Tel Aviv Basketball is negotiating with the EuroLeague Players’ Union (ELPA) to reduce players’ salaries. Due to significant financial losses from hosting games in Belgrade without an audience, the club is trying to activate a ‘force majeure’ clause that would allow them to complete the procedure. The players have been informed of this move, and it is estimated that the cut could reach at least 10 per cent of their salaries.

Maccabi Tel Aviv is hosting its matches in Belgrade behind closed doors due to the war, which has led to losses of millions of shekels since the players left Israel on 8 October, the day after a deadly terrorist attack. The club has already announced 15 per cent cuts in the salaries of all club employees, including members of the technical staff, and now considers it necessary to further reduce costs through cuts in players’ salaries.
