Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv signed Tamir Blatt

The 26-year-old Israeli point guard bolsters the Yellow back court after two seasons in Berlin. Blatt: "I am happy to return home to Israel". Coach Kattash: "He has proven himself at the EuroLeague level"

Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv secured the services of point guard Tamir Blatt on a two-year deal. The talented 26-years-old guard (1.78 meters/ 5-10), who emerged as a solid EuroLeague floor manager in two years with the ALBA Berlin uniform, joins Oded Kattash’s great back court.

“I’m very happy that he’s with us”, coach Oded Kattash told maccabi.co.il. “Tamir is a genuine point guard that has proven himself at the EuroLeague level. He can contribute in both leagues and that’s a big upgrade. I’m very happy to reunite with him and get back to coaching him”.

“We are happy to add Tamir Blatt to the roster”, explained sports director Avi Even. “Tamir is a very good fit for group we assembled already the previous summer – both on a professional level and on a character level. Tamir brings to the table international experience in the Euroleague and at the national teams’ level. He has the characteristics we were looking for and fits the DNA of the team”.

Last season, Tamir Blatt took part in 30 EuroLeague games, starting in 14 of them. He amassed 7.8 points and 4.6 assists per game, playing just under 20 minutes per game. The young point guard scored in double figures 14 times and ranked 11th in the top European competition with 2 made threes per contest. In the strong Bundesliga, he averaged 6.9 points and 5.4 assists per game.

Tamir Blatt was born on May 4th, 1997 to Kinneret and David Blatt, Maccabi’s legendary former coach and current head of the proffesional committee. He picked up a basketball while spanning the globe alongside his father, and began his Israeli hoops journey in Hapoel Tel Aviv and Ramat HaSharon before joining Hapoel Holon in 2017. In 2018 Blatt moved to Hapoel Jerusalem, where he played three seasons, mostly under Kattash. He signed for ALBA in 2021.

Blatt played for the Israeli national team in all youth categories, and made his debut for the senior team in 2017 when Kattash was the coach. The quick guard was chosen as the the BCL’s Best Young Player in 2019, won three Israeli cups, led the Israeli league in assists in 2020/21 and was crowned German champion with ALBA in 2022.
