Luka Doncic will be in Rome on June 25 for a series of meetings connected to the NBA Europe project, while the race between the Nelson-Doncic and Matiasic groups remains open

Luka Doncic is expected in Rome on June 25. According to Repubblica Roma, the Los Angeles Lakers star will meet mayor Roberto Gualtieri, attend a press conference at City Hall and take part in Nike events.

The visit is seen as a strong statement by the NBA Europe project linked to the Donnie Nelson-Doncic group, which acquired the rights of Vanoli Cremona and aims to bring a team to the Italian capital. The team has been included in next season’s EuroCup, but key questions remain, especially about the arena: PalaTiziano does not appear to meet European requirements, while PalaEur is already connected to the rival group.

On the other side stands Paul Matiasic, who reportedly has a pre-agreement with Ettore Messina as coach, Zoran Savic as general manager and PalaEur as home arena. The sporting title is still missing, with Trieste again emerging as a possible option. Rome remains a two-front battle for the future of European basketball.
