According to ESPN, Jaxson Hayes is working to obtain a Slovenian passport to represent Slovenia alongside Luka Doncic in international play. His agent, Bill Duffy, first raised the idea even before Doncic’s trade to the Los Angeles Lakers.
Hayes, 25, said Slovenia allows one naturalized player, and he wants to fill that spot. Frustrated by USA Basketball’s closed selection process, he stated, “I’ll do whatever it takes to play on that stage.”
Coach JJ Redick supports the move, calling it a valuable experience for both Hayes and Doncic. Slovenia’s next major goal is the 2027 FIBA World Cup in Qatar, with qualifying rounds beginning later this year.
