Los Angeles Lakers injury update: Kessler nearing return, Sexton further behind

JJ Redick says Walker Kessler is nearing a return to live practice, while Collin Sexton remains further behind in his recovery

JJ Redick provided updates on Walker Kessler and Collin Sexton ahead of the Lakers’ final preseason games.
Kessler has returned to practice, while Sexton remains on a modified schedule and is further behind in his recovery.

“We’re not committed to that,” Redick said when asked if Kessler would play in the next games. The center has resumed most of the work but not live action yet: “He did everything else. We’ll see if he can do live.” Kessler injured his finger after hitting it on the backboard during a drill, though Redick downplayed the issue: “He’s fine. He’s fine.”

On Sexton, Redick was more cautious: “Collin was modified again. He’s probably a little bit further behind.” The issue is in the lower leg, with no specific diagnosis or return timetable provided.
