The Los Angeles Lakers edged the Utah Jazz 108-106, but lost Deandre Ayton to a right knee contusion after a collision with rookie Ace Bailey. Ayton exited midway through the second quarter after posting 2 points and 2 rebounds in 13 minutes.
“He couldn’t go in the second half,” coach JJ Redick said. Jaxson Hayes started after halftime, while Maxi Kleber filled in late — scoring a crucial dunk in the final minutes. “He came in and changed the game,” noted Austin Reaves.
Luka Doncic led the way with 33 points, 11 rebounds and 8 assists, as LeBron James added 17 and 8 in his second game back from sciatica. The Lakers (12-4) next face the Clippers in NBA Cup group play.
