The Los Angeles Lakers will be without Austin Reaves for at least a month. Friday’s MRI showed a Grade 2 gastrocnemius strain in his left calf, with a reevaluation in approximately four weeks.
This injury is separate from the mild calf issue that recently forced him to miss three games. Reaves returned Tuesday with 17 points vs Phoenix, then aggravated a new issue in the first half of the 119-96 Christmas loss to Houston.
The timing is brutal: Reaves was enjoying a career year at 26.6 points, 6.3 assists and 5.2 rebounds, putting him in the All-Star conversation. Meanwhile, the Lakers have hit a rough patch and face a busy upcoming stretch.
Los Angeles has 15 games between now and Jan. 26, the window Reaves could miss. His absence significantly impacts both creation and scoring load.
