Lithuanian champions Zalgiris Kaunas have raised the financial bar ahead of the 2026-27 season. During Tuesday’s annual presentation, club president Paulius Jankunas and sports director Gediminas Navickas announced a total budget of €28.8 million, before taxes.
Of that amount, €19.7 million will be allocated directly to player and staff salaries.
€26.8 million revenue target
Zalgiris expects to generate €26.8 million in revenue before the postseason to fund the campaign.
The target comes after a highly successful financial year. Last season, the club initially projected revenue of €18.8 million, but strong returns pushed the final figure to €24 million.
Those revenues helped offset €24.8 million in total expenses, including €14.5 million spent on team salaries.
Increased investment to compete at the top
The significant increase in payroll reflects Zalgiris’ determination to build on last season’s results.
With Tomas Masiulis as head coach and veteran leadership from players such as Jonas Valanciunas and Edgaras Ulanovas, the club is looking to remain competitive at the highest level of European basketball.
Zalgiris finished fifth in the EuroLeague last season before being eliminated by Fenerbahce Beko in the playoffs.
The club now aims to use its increased financial strength to defend its domestic titles while making another deep run in the EuroLeague.
Two wins to start the LKL season
Zalgiris opened the 2026-27 Betsson LKL season with two consecutive victories.
The Lithuanian champions will make their EuroLeague regular-season debut on Thursday, when they travel to Belgrade Arena to face Crvena Zvezda Meridianbet.
They will then return to domestic action on Sunday for their first home game of the season against Siauliai.
