Lebron James wins AP Male Athlete of the Year award

It is the fourth time -a tied record- that the award goes to James.

The Associated Press has granted Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James the “AP Male Athlete of the Year award” for 2020. James, who had already won the trophy three times in his career (2013, 2016, 2018) and also obtained the nomination as “Athlete of the Decade”, has narrowly beaten Kansas City QB Patrick Mahomes, with Formula 1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton being a distant third.

The AP award was first given out in 1931. James’ fourth win matched Lance Armstrong and Tiger Woods for the most by men. In celebrating James’ win, the Associated Press has also distinguished Lakers’ star social, cultural and political activism.
