Before choosing the Philadelphia 76ers, LeBron James reportedly explored a familiar option with the Cleveland Cavaliers. According to Shams Charania, James met with Cleveland’s leadership in Akron in early July.
Charania said he was aware of the meeting involving the Cavaliers’ front office, mentioning Koby Altman, Brandon Weems and members of the Gilbert family, including Grant Gilbert. Speaking on the Game Over podcast, the insider caught Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul off guard, with Paul replying: “Wait a minute, how did you know about that?”
Charania explained that he did not report the information in real time because it had been shared by multiple people confidentially and off the record. James ultimately signed a two-year, $8 million deal with Philadelphia, which became a serious destination after the 76ers traded for Jaylen Brown.
