Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James said he would be “very disappointed” if the NBA decided to play games without fans in response to the coronavirus crisis, but admitted he would “listen” to the league if that’s what it decided to do. James’ answer Tuesday came three days after he insisted he would not play in an arena with no fans.
“Obviously I would be very disappointed at not having the fans, ’cause that’s what I play for,” James told reporters Tuesday. “I play for my family; I play for my fans. If they will say no one can actually come to the game, if they’ve decided to go to that point, I’d be disappointed in that. But at the same time, you gotta listen to the people that’s keeping track of what’s going on. And if they feel like what’s best for the safety of the players, safety of the franchise, safety of the league to mandate that, then we all listen to it.”
