The Los Angeles Lakers paid tribute to LeBron James with a statement from Jeanie Buss after the four-time MVP decided to continue his career away from Los Angeles.
“LeBron James is one of the greatest athletes in history,” Buss said in the team’s statement, thanking James for his eight years with the Lakers.
The Lakers owner specifically mentioned the 2020 NBA championship, won under extraordinary circumstances, as well as the countless records James broke in purple and gold.
According to AP, LeBron James will not return to the Lakers and plans to play his 24th NBA season elsewhere. His departure ends a run that began in 2018 and peaked with the title in the Orlando bubble.
“He will always be a cherished part of the Lakers family,” Buss added in the franchise’s farewell message.
