After 133 days of silence, LeBron James finally spoke about his return for the 21st NBA season with the Los Angeles Lakers. “I feel like I’ve got a lot more to give,” James stated during the Lakers’ media day.
James, who will turn 39 in December, said he made the decision after weeks of personal reflection and discussions with his family. He also stated he will dedicate his season to his son Bronny, who is recovering from cardiac arrest and successful surgery.
Regarding his future, James, who has a $51.4 million player option for the 2024-25 season, said he is not ready to commit to basketball beyond this season. “I don’t know,” he responded to a question about whether this could be his final season.
James also expressed interest in representing the U.S. Olympic team again in 2024 but did not commit. “I do have interest,” he said. “We’ll see what happens.”
Despite injuries and age, James is confident he can still produce at an elite level. “I feel different,” he said. “I’m not a 21-year-old, that’s for sure. But as far as my energy level, I feel pretty good.”
