Joffrey Lauvergne has made it clear that he hopes to finish his playing career with Partizan Belgrade. The French big man, who returned to the Serbian club late last season, told SKWEEK how meaningful it was for him to come back to Belgrade.
“It was really important for me to play here again and finish my career here. It’s exactly how I imagined it,” Lauvergne said.
The former French international revealed that his goal is to remain with Partizan for at least two or three more seasons, although he did not rule out other opportunities in the future. He also spoke fondly of his previous experience with Kuwait Sports Club, describing it as “an incredible experience.”
His return to Belgrade has taken on even greater significance following the passing of legendary Partizan coach Dusko Vujosevic. Lauvergne paid an emotional tribute to his former mentor, calling him the most important person he had met outside of his own family.
“He taught me much more than basketball. He taught me life,” Lauvergne said, adding that the last message he sent to Vujosevic was about his return to Partizan, shortly before the deal became official.
The French center also noted the symbolic nature of now training alongside Vujosevic’s son, recalling that he was only a teenager when Lauvergne left the club 15 years ago.
Looking ahead to the new season, Lauvergne praised Partizan’s offseason moves, highlighting the value of adding players already familiar with European basketball. He singled out Alessandro Pajola and Luca Vildoza—whom he described as “brothers”—while also admitting that the roster still needs reinforcement.
“We’re still missing a player at the three and another one at the four. We’ll see who’s available on the market,” he said.
