Laporta: NBA Europe talks are quite advanced. The new Palau could meet NBA standards

FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta confirmed in an interview with Mundo Deportivo that the discussions between the NBA, EuroLeague, and FIBA regarding a potential NBA Europe initiative are “quite advanced.”

Laporta emphasized that the NBA is aiming to establish a presence in Europe, and if that materializes, facilities such as arenas and ‘Palaus’ must be taken seriously. “We are working on the new Palau project, with a draft expected in the second quarter of next year. We won’t share ownership with anyone,” he clarified. “We must consider the possibility of a competition shift. The new Palau could meet NBA standards — just in case.”

He further stated: “Talks are quite advanced. I can’t reveal the final structure; there are several options. I know the NBA and EuroLeague are in contact, and the NBA is also speaking with FIBA. There is an agreement with the EuroLeague, and we are listening to what we’re being told.”
